Spiritual Direction with Young People — with Rev. Amy Smith

Wednesday, May 18, 2011, 4–6:15 p.m. (refreshments and networking 3:30–4 p.m.) Cost: $15 to $35, as you are able)

Topic  ruok? Tou tcoy <3 tmb (texting language = “Are you ok?  I’m thinking of you, take care of yourself, I offer you friendship, text me back”). Is this Spiritual Direction? If you work with young people, maybe? yes? no? What does the art of Spiritual Direction look like when youth culture lives via texting, Facebook, iPod, or Skyping? For any spiritual companions seeking to walk with teens, 20s or 30s, we need to be creative, intentional, and contemplative in making space for the Spirit as young people go through their spiritual, emotional, and personal lives.

Amy Smith
, Youth Pastor at Cameron Church UMC, is a certified spiritual director, minister, retreat, and workshop leader who brings a broad range of expertise to her work with groups in the areas of personal and community spiritual formation, development, and renewal.
