Three Streams of Aliveness: Exploring Celtic Spirituality

  • February 23, 2016
  • 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
  • Loretto Spirituality Center, 4000 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Littleton, CO 80123

In both its ancient and contemporary forms, the Celtic Spiritual Tradition offers a unique perspective on the history and practice of European spirituality. Through discussion and practice, art, poetry and music, this retreat will focus on such themes as The Celtic Cross, pilgrimage, threshold, thin places, the ancient northern European agricultural calendar and the connection with early Christian desert spirituality. While Celtic influence in Europe was expansive, particular emphasis will be given to the Irish Spiritual tradition with a focus on these three streams: The Ancient or pre-Celtic, the Celtic, and the Christian. Participants will be given time in the afternoon to reflect on the morning experience.

The Rev. Brad Berglund is currently the Director of Illuminated Journeys, a pilgrimage and retreat ministry, and Director of Reinventing Sunday, a worship renewal ministry. Together with his wife, Rita, he has led pilgrimages to the Celtic holy sites in Ireland, as well as to many other countries. He is an adjunct professor at the Iliff School of Theology where his courses include Celtic Spirituality, Praying with Scripture and Life as Pilgrimage. Brad is Pastor at The Threshold located in the Chapel of Calvary Baptist Church of Denver praying in the style of the Taize Community each Sunday evening at 5pm. He holds degrees in theology and sacred music. His books include Reinventing Sunday and Reinventing Worship.

Cost: $35:00 includes program, lunch and a private room.
