With summer comes a change of pace. Classes are complete, the Center is closed and you may find yourself wishing you had a little something to nurture and support your spiritual life during this time. Consider our SUMMER PROGRAM offering for 2017. This program, titled Growing in Community: A Summer Practice, will provide a unique opportunity to delve deeply into some of Fr. Thomas Keating’s most current writings and depth of wisdom about the importance of community as part of our spiritual journey. Rather than a book, the material that we will be using in this exploration is the recently revised Theological Principles (and their corresponding commentaries) of Contemplative Outreach. In this rich spiritual work, which Father Thomas spent extensive time and effort revising and refining over this past year so as to clearly articulate his vision for a healthy and viable contemplative community going forward, there are fourteen statements, and half of them are about community. Although written for the Contemplative Outreach community, the depth of wisdom and meaning in these reflections extends well beyond any organizational boundaries and appeals to a much wider audience, including those who are new to Centering Prayer and the contemplative spiritual journey as well as those with years of Centering Prayer experience. All you need to bring is openness and a willingness to allow the Spirit to be at work. This summer is an ideal time to prayerfully reflect on Thomas’ latest gift to us.
