Companioning the Spiritual But Not Religious -- with Kent Ira Groff

Wednesday, Aug 17, 2011, 4–6:15 p.m. (refreshments and networking 3:30–4 p.m.) Cost: $15 to $35, as you are able)

Topic    How can we make connections and walk alongside those who don’t feel at home with religious language or institutions? How can we become guides for one another on a journey without maps? Discover how barriers to believing can become bridges to a deeper level of spirituality. The leader’s interactive presentation will make use of art, poetry, music, film clips, and your own experiences. Explore skills for informal and formal companioning, as the leader draws on his article in a 2005 issue of Presence, “Companioning Spiritual Orphans.”

Dr. Kent Ira Groff meets with many who identify as spiritual but not religious. A spiritual director, writer poet and retreat leader, he is founding mentor of Oasis Ministries and former adjunct professor at Lancaster Theological Seminary (PA). He draws on years as parish pastor and chaplain and two decades of training spiritual directors, and on his book, What Would I Believe if I Didn't Believe Anything?: A Handbook for Spiritual Orphans.
