Leader: Kathy Thaden
Come explore mosaic art in the contemplative Abbey setting. We will enter into a quiet space to listen and respond to God while arranging glass, found objects and other materials into a mosaic. Our time together will center on being open to the creative journey, finding beauty in what was once broken. The weekend will include an introduction to modern mosaics and four workshop sessions. Beginners as well as experienced mosaicists will benefit from this time of intentionally focusing on the creative process. Time together will include some reflection, prayer, music and silence as well as hands-on instruction and demonstrations. Participants will also have personal time for exploring the outdoors, worship or rest. Upon registration, you will receive a short list of suggested items to bring, but all other supplies, tools and materials will be provided.
Kathy Thaden is an award winning artist whose work has been exhibited across the US and Canada. Kathy describes working in mosaic as a transforming process. The glass is broken, shaped, fit together and made whole again. When possible she reinvents scrap glass or discarded items from our “throw-away” culture into sacred art formed in prayer. These precious bits and pieces are to be treasured. Just as each person is valued and unique, never to be cast aside, together we form the Body of Christ. Kathy's studio is in Golden, Colorado where her husband is an Episcopal priest. She also serves as President of the Colorado Mosaic Artists association. www.thadenmosaics.com
