A professional development Retreat for Practicing Spiritual Directors in a contemplative setting.

Peggy Godfrey is a poet, rancher and spiritual director who sees her calling as a rancher raising sheep as being very compatible with her calling as a spiritual director. She quotes the poet Rainer Maria Rilke in Letters to a Young Poet: “I would like to beg you…, to have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and to try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don’t search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now.”

Peggy continues: “Spiritual direction in our own lives and in those we accompany is pathless, unmapped territory. Apart from living and loving the questions, we look for gods with answers, certainties, five-year plans, maps, vision statements, mission-oriented goals so we can see evidence of ministry.”

Our retreat leader will challenge us to leave certainty behind for a brief few days; to let go of the need to “leave deep footprints” and to approach this retreat time with openness to the pathless path. Peggy always sprinkles her retreats with ranching stories and brings a seasoned sense of humor to every event. Expect to be surprised, challenged, comforted and best of all---to have a good time.
