The Benedictine Spiritual Formation Program at Benet Hill Monastery is offering an advanced training class for practicing spiritual directors. It is open to spiritual directors from all faith traditions. This class will explore some of the spiritual and faith development concepts of 20th and 21st C of people such as James Fowler, Nicola Slee, Richard Rohr, and others. Students will learn to apply these concepts in spiritual direction.

Students will become familiar with the basic ideas of each. The class will explore male and female spiritual journeys, and will learn how to listen for patterns and  processes in directees that suggest where on the spiritual journey they may be. Special attention will be paid to those difficult times of transition from one process to another. Students will learn skills to help accompany directees through these difficult times.

The class will include presentation and discussion of reading materials, role plays, case studies, and group discussion. A certificate of completion will be presented at the end of the class. Size is limited. Please register by Sept 29. To register go to

The instructor will be Margie Arms, PhD. Dr. Arms has been a practicing spiritual director for 8 years. She is a member of Spiritual Directors International and sits on the Spiritual Direction Colorado Committee where she coordinates the regional gatherings of spiritual directors. Dr. Arms is a graduate of the Benedictine Spiritual Formation Program at Benet Hill Monastery. She has a joint PhD from Iliff School of Theology and the University of Denver in religious and theologicial studies in the area of religion and psychology. Prior to her call to Spiritual Direction work, Dr. Arms, who is a licensed clinical social worker, was a psychotherapist.
