A core human identity is our Ethical Self, which is formed in the first years of our life and deeply informs our adult beliefs, values and behaviors. Our spiritual tradition and response to those early teachings—or lack of teaching—is a primary source of our understanding of ethics—our place in our community and how we respond to others.
This interactive workshop will introduce participants to the four different narratives that inform our ethical identity through an assessment called theEthical Lens Inventory. As we become aware of those narratives and determine which is dominant, conversation partners can be aware of how their beliefs and values intersect. We will also explore how to identify the ethical perspectives of others to help us better tailor the various experiences and conversations within a faith formation, spiritual direction, coaching, or therapist context.
Catharyn Baird, JD, is the Founder/CEO of EthicsGame, LLC and Professor of Business, Emeritus, Regis University, Denver, CO. Baird’s research resulted in the development of the Ethical Lens Inventory™, a typology that has been used by more than 550,000 people to determine their ethical preference and leadership style. She was featured as a TEDxMileHi presenter in June of 2015, Ideas Unbridled. Her presentation, Ethics For People on the Move, explores how we define an ethical life, and how we can leverage ethical plurality to wisely build strong cultures.
As an engaged Episcopalian on a spiritual journey, Baird has a long history of teaching Adult Formation classes, with a particular emphasis on spiritual maturity. She also was on the Board of the Colorado Council of Churches from 2008-2020, and joined Spiritual Direction Colorado in 2020.
